Our free support services

We offer free support services to members who may be in a vulnerable situation or need extra help to manage their energy. For example, if you’re over 60, have a young child, a disability or health condition, or you’ve experienced a big change in your life, like bereavement or job loss.

Some energy suppliers call this the ‘Priority Services Register’. By registering with us, we can make sure we give you the support you need.

The services we offer include:

Priority reconnection if there’s a power cut

We work with your local energy network operator to provide extra support that’s right for you. For example, giving you advance notice of planned power cuts, or arranging heating or cooking equipment if you have a power cut.

Nominate someone to help you manage your account

If you’re unwell, need to self-isolate, or need help to manage your account with us, you can nominate a friend, family member or carer to manage your energy for you.

Different ways to contact us

If you're hard of hearing you can contact us through email or web chat. If you’d prefer to use BSL when you get in touch, call us using a SignLive video interpreter. It's free, and available from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Sign up for a SignLive account and use their translator to call Bulb on 0300 30 30 635.

Different ways we can contact you

We can arrange for statements and information about your account to be sent in a way that suits you best. For example, in a large print format or in braille.

Help with reading your meter

If you have trouble reading your electricity or gas meter, we'll install a smart meter for you, so you can keep on top of your usage in your Bulb Account. Find out more about getting a smart meter.

Give engineers a codeword

You can provide a codeword to recognise an approved meter reader or engineer when they come to visit.

Annual gas safety checks

You may be eligible for free gas safety checks if you own your home, and everyone in your household is over 60, chronically unwell, or disabled, and you receive means-tested benefits. Our website is built with accessibility in mind. But if you’re struggling to access information, there are guides that can help. AbilityNet’s website My Computer My Way, and the BBC’s My Web My Way explain how to adjust your computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet to better suit your needs.
