Apply now for the Warm Home Discount

Update: 15 February 2022. Applications for this year’s Warm Home Discount are now closed.

The Warm Home Discount is a government scheme which gives people receiving certain benefits a payment of £140 towards their winter electricity bills. It’s paid for by energy suppliers. 

Two groups of people are eligible for the Warm Home Discount. The ‘core group’ and the ‘broader group’ (catchy names, we’re sure you’ll agree). 

You get the Warm Home Discount automatically if you’re in the core group. 

If you were receiving the ‘guarantee credit’ element of Pension Credit on 4 July 2021 and Bulb was your supplier, you’re in the core group. 

That means that you don’t have to apply to get the Warm Home Discount. We’ll add £140 credit to your Bulb account automatically before 31 March 2022. Or if you top up your meters, we’ll send you a Post Office voucher for £140 credit by the same date. You’ll get a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) with more details by December.

If you joined Bulb after 4 July 2021, or you started receiving the guarantee credit part of Pension Credit on (or after) this date, then you’re part of the Broader Group.

You need to apply for the Warm Home Discount if you’re in the broader group. 

You can apply for the Warm Home Discount if you receive an eligible low-income benefit, and you meet an additional eligibility criteria, too. There are lots of ways to qualify - so it’s best to check our full list to see whether you’re part of the broader group.  

Anyone in the broader group can submit an application through the online form in your Bulb account. We’ll ask for some documents to show that you’re eligible for the Warm Home Discount, so you can save your progress at any point.

Broader group places are limited

Once you’ve submitted your form, you can leave it with us. We’ll process your application and get in touch with you if we need anything else. Places for the broader group are limited, so we process applications on a first come, first served basis.

If your application is approved, we'll send you a payment of £140 by 31 March 2022 - either by crediting your Bulb account or sending you a voucher for your top up meter. It really is that simple.
