Bulb hero: Annabel Thomas, Ncn’ean whisky Distillery
Bulb hero: Annabel Thomas, founder of Ncn’ean whisky distillery
Annabel is a Bulb hero. After leaving London to pursue her dream of founding a sustainable whisky distillery, Ncn’ean was born. Annabel is changing the way we make and drink Scotch. And we love her for it.
The whisky industry has a rich heritage which Annabel is proud to draw on. Her distillery is based on the West coast of Scotland, the home of Scotch. But as a young, female entrepreneur, she looks at whisky through fresh eyes. And she wants do things a little differently.
Annabel built Ncn’ean to be as sustainable as possible. The distillery uses 100% organic barley to make its whisky. Waste products are used as much as possible in the process - left-over grain becomes food for the farm’s cows. Nothing goes to waste. And, she’s powered by Bulb’s 100% renewable electricity to boot.
And what Annabel is distilling will likely taste a little bit different. At Ncn’ean they’re always experimenting to get the best flavour. Whether that’s through a champagne yeast test, or foraging for local botanicals to use in the process, we’re sure the results will be delicious. The only problem is that Scotch has to be matured for 3 years and a day before it can be sold as ‘whisky’. But, as they say, good things come to those who wait.
