Bulb is now a Warm Home Discount Supplier

We’re proud to say that Bulb is now a Warm Home Discount Supplier, meaning we can provide a little extra help to some of our members this coming winter.

The Warm Home Discount is a government scheme that provides a £140 credit towards the winter energy bills of households that need it most. We’re proud to take part and do our bit to tackle winter fuel poverty. You can register your interest now or read on to find out more about the scheme.

How does it work?

The government’s Warm Home Discount (WHD) scheme provides a one-off credit of £140 (VAT included) towards the electricity or gas bills of certain qualified households.

The credit will be provided between autumn 2018 and March 2019. The money comes directly off your energy bill, rather than being paid into your bank account.

Do you qualify?

There are two ways of qualifying for the 2018 to 2019 winter Warm Home Discount:

If you are a Bulb member of pensionable age receiving Guarantee Credit you automatically qualify.

If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you don't need to do anything. The Department for Work and Pensions will send you a letter between the 11th October and the 23rd November to let you know you will be receiving the credit. £140 will automatically be added to your Bulb account.

Alternatively, you can apply for the WHD if you receive certain other qualifying benefits.

You can see the details of which benefits qualify in our Help article.

It’s quite complex, but we want as many Bulb members as possible to get the discount, so please do apply if you think you qualify.

It's worth noting that the regulation for the 2018/19 scheme is not yet finalised and may be subject to change. We'll update members of any changes.

How to apply

We will be opening up applications to our WHD scheme in the autumn of 2018. Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis.

In the meantime, if you think you qualify you can register your interest in Bulb’s Warm Home Discount Scheme now.
